WHAT'S NEW ON THE HOMESTEAD

Our Little Barn Shed

Not exactly recent build - 2007, if I remember correctly, but here is an in-process shot of our little Barn Shed.

OK, this is my Mystery Trailer.  Bought it for $100, and it's worth just about that much. The plan is to rebuild it and use it for camping and hunting trips. But I have no idea who manuafactured it - there are no markings except "Malheur"... anybody got any ideas?

OK - Chickens.  We started keeping chickens in 2012, with 5 laying hens. A Buff Orpington we named Buffer, a Black Australourpe named Maizey, a Silver Laced Wyandotte, Freida, and a Gold Laced Wyandotte we named Willa.

One lesson we have learned over the past 4 years - never name your chickens! We only have one left - Maizey - and she barely lays an egg every few days. But she's more pet than provider... and that's never a good thing with chickens! We're waiting for her to go broody, so maybe she can help us re-start our laying flock - but we can't bear to process her.

This is what it looked like when we finished. It has a bit of weather wear on it now, so I'll just leave the pristine picture up!

Sad Tales to tell... we no longer have either of our pets. They both lived long lives and we loved them dearly. We miss them very much.

Uh Oh... chicken expansion! We decided to try an experiment, and expand our chicken capacity to raise a small number of meat birds - Red Rangers. We raise them for our own consumption, processing them ourselves. It's been an adventure, but it's working! Oh... and we don't name these!
